We do special projects as needs arise. The current special project is sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity home. This sponsorship has been made possible by the generous donations of member churches, individual contributors, and the Caring Alliance organization itself.
Habitat for Humanity
The Caring Alliance and its partners (listed below) have sponsored a 3-bedroom townhouse at 150 Pinery Trail. It will be occupied by the Abdi family. Here is a brief introduction:
Canadians traditionally gather with family and friends July 1 to enjoy a day of leisure and perhaps to reflect on the blessings of life in Canada. Abdi Abdi spent Canada Day working with other Habitat volunteers to build his familyís new home and those of other Habitat partner families.
When Abdi, wife Anisa and their young sons Ahmed and Faisal left Somalia to seek refuge in Canada. Their native country was in the throes of political chaos and civil war that eventually claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Somalis. Fifteen years later, Abdi, a security guard, Anisa, who works for the Toronto District School Board, and their family, which has grown to incude eight-year old daughter Awo, and 15 year-old son Abdillahi, are proud Canadians.
Abdi describes his familyís new Habitat home as a dream come true. It will meet the familyís immediate need to move from a crowded, expensive two-bedroom apartment into a more affordable home of their own with room for four growing children.
Abdi looks forward to his family becoming part of the diverse group of Habitat partner families that, despite their apparent differences, will put down roots here, creating a safe, strong and vibrant community.
