Advocacy

Advocating on behalf of the working poor and homeless families is a major thrust of the Caring Alliance. While many of our member faith communities are active in this area, our Advisory Board members are continually looking for ways in which to reach out and share the everyday realities of the families living in Scarborough.

This is accomplished in the following ways:

Faith communities

  • speaking to congregations on their Sabbath days
  • meeting with members of mission and outreach committees
  • assisting faith groups organize special events
  • sharing up-to-date research data by newsletter and website
  • supporting the multifaith alliance group

Community

  • providing an information table at public events
  • attending community information sessions and sharing information
  • organizing information meetings hosted by member churches i.e. film viewing of
  • Home Safe Toronto

Politicians 

  • meeting with politicians from all three levels of government
  • working with constituency staff to clarify issues on homelessness, affordable
  • housing and minimum wage concerns
  • inviting politicians and their staff members to speak at our general meetings
